ICT4D Conference and Training Day 2019 FAQs

Who attends the Conference?

The ICT4D Conference brings together public, private and civil society organizations from across the humanitarian and international development community. Participants share how they are using innovations in information and communications technology to increase impact in addressing humanitarian and development challenges. This highly interactive and hands-on conference attracts a diverse audience of technical advisors, field-based program managers, executives, and others who offer a range of practical insights on applying technology to development challenges.

When and where is the Conference and Training Day taking place?

  • The ICT4D Conference: Tuesday April 30 – Thursday May 2, 2019
  • The ICT4D Training Day: Friday May 3, 2019

What are the Conference and Training Day fees and how can I register to attend?

The indicated conference fees are listed in USD ($) and payment will be made in USD ($) through PayPal or by credit or visa card.

You can also register on site at the ICT4D Conference registration desk in Kampala, but please note that you may need to wait in line.

The Training Day fees will be announced shortly.

Are there any special offers and discounts?

The early bird rate expiries January 31, 2019. Other discounts are not valid in conjunction with the early bird or other discounted rates.

Who can apply for a Global South discount?

If you wish to register with the Global South discount for low/ lower middle – income countries, please refer to the official World Bank website for a list of countries that qualify.

Only those organizations that are headquartered in a Global South country are eligible for those rates. International businesses and INGOs are excluded from those rates regardless of their location.

How can I make a group booking?

If you are registering a group of 5 or more, please email admin@ict4dconference.org.
There are no special discounts for group bookings.

I have registered for the Conference and/or Training Day and now would like to change some of my details, who do I contact?

Email changes to admin@ict4dconference.org and we will update your details. We will send you a return email to confirm updates have been made.

What are the cancellation and refund policies?

  • If you request a cancellation/refund before 23:59 Thursday 28 February, 2019, you will receive a full refund.
  • If you request a cancellation/refund from Friday 1 March, 2019, you will not be eligible for a refund.
  • If you cannot attend the event, your registration fee can be transferred to a substitute delegate from your organization.
  • Simply let us know who they are, and who they are replacing, by sending an email to admin@ict4dconference.org.
  • If you have booked a two or three-day ticket, you will be unable to split the ticket between two or three delegates across the different days.
  • If an incorrect registration ticket has been purchased, we will contact you by email and request the additional amount to pay via PayPal. Your place will be unconfirmed until we have received the outstanding payment. Failure to pay will result in the registration ticket being cancelled.

Access Requirements

ICT4D Conference would like all the delegates to fully participate in the conference. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible both inside and outside.

Accommodation

Hotel accommodation is not included in the registration fee. A range of partner hotels close to the venue will be listed on the Accommodation page of the ICT4D Conference website (launching soon).

Shuttle bus transportation will be provided by some of these ICT4D Conference Partner Hotel.

Yellow fever vaccination

Yellow fever is a serious and potentially fatal viral disease that is spread by mosquitoes in tropical parts of Africa and South America. It occurs in both jungle and urban environments.

The yellow fever vaccine certificate is mandatory and travellers can be prevented from entering/exiting Uganda if they cannot show proof of a yellow fever vaccination. The certificate only becomes valid 10 days after the vaccination.

We recommend you check with your medical practitioner prior to departure to ensure you have received the necessary vaccinations, all associated costs and been advised on any additional requirements.

Is there funding available to help with travel/accommodation/registration costs to attend?

Funding is not available. However we have created the Conference Support & Guidance page with valuable advice, a template letter and crowd funding links to present a business case to managers or donors to help secure support for Conference attendance and associated travel costs.

Additionally, the visa invitation letter from the ICT4D Conference organizers is available for all registered attendees.

Will I receive a certificate of attendance?

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide this.

What language does the ICT4D Conference take place in?

The ICT4D Conference takes place in English. Please note that translation services will not be provided by the ICT4D Conference. Attendees are welcome to bring a translator. Please contact the Conference Administration team for details of how to register a translator.

Conference photography and videography

ICT4D Conference captures photographs, video, and audio during the Conference to use in newsletters and other promotional materials, whether in print, electronic, or other media, including the Conference website. By participating in this Conference you grant ICT4D Conference the right to use your name and likeness for such purposes.

What is the dress attire?

There is no conference dress code. However, business casual attire is appropriate for all participants. Remember to bring comfortable shoes and a sweater or sweatshirt in case of cool weather and air-conditioned rooms.
Some field trips may take place in rural locations. Please dress appropriately.

I have special dietary requirements, who do I need to tell?

Any specific dietary requirements should be emailed to admin@ict4dconference.org at least 5 working days prior to the conference commencing.

Is free Wi-Fi available?

Yes, the network name and password will be clearly displayed around the venue.

Is there parking onsite?

Yes onsite parking is available.

Is there anywhere non-residents can leave their luggage at the venue?

Yes, please take your luggage to the Concierge Desk inside the main hotel.

How can I obtain a copy of a presenter’s presentation?

Presentations shared with ICT4D Conference will be made available on the ICT4D Conference App nearer to the conference.
