Visa Information
Starting January 2024, the Government of Kenya introduced the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), which is now required for all foreign nationals traveling to Kenya.
The application fee is $34 USD, and all required documents and photos must be uploaded in JPEG format.
Travelers can submit their applications up to 3 months prior to travel and must apply at the latest 7 days prior to travel to ensure adequate time for processing and issuance of the eTA.

Getting to the 2026 ICT4D Conference Venue
Nairobi is serviced by the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The distance from the airport to the Trademark Hotel is 26 kilometers, at Limuru Road, Village Market, Gigiri, Nairobi.
Taxis are available at the airport; please use an official airport taxi. The journey should take approximately 35 minutes depending on traffic. Agree on the price before parting. Uber is easily accessible within the airport and for moving around Nairobi.

Malaria risk exists year-round throughout Kenya, including in game parks, Nairobi, and highland areas above 2,500 m across Central, Eastern, Nyanza, Rift Valley, and Western regions. Visitors are advised to take appropriate preventive measures.
Please note that tap water in Kenya is not safe for drinking; however, bottled water is widely available.

Visitors to Kenya, particularly major cities like Nairobi, should be highly vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times due to a high level of crime. Criminal activity ranges from petty theft and mobile phone fraud to more serious offenses such as carjacking and kidnapping.
Key Safety Precautions:
Valuables: Lock passports, traveler’s cheques, excess cash, and other valuable items in the hotel safe. Always carry a copy of your passport and visa (if applicable).
Cash and Jewelry: Avoid carrying large amounts of cash and refrain from wearing expensive jewelry.
Theft: Do not physically resist any robbery attempt.
Vigilance: Maintain alertness, especially in areas frequently visited by tourists and foreigners.
Nighttime Travel: Avoid walking alone in major cities after dark.
Emergency Planning: Monitor local media for current events, be prepared to adjust your plans, and have contingency plans for an emergency departure from the country.
Border Travel Warning:
It is advised to avoid travel within 100 kilometers of the borders with Somalia, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. For the most current and specific security advice before and during your stay, consult your national Foreign Office travel advisory for Kenya.

❖ All major forms of credit cards are accepted in Kenya. Banks and Bureau de Change are available at the airport and in most shopping malls.
❖ Banks are open in general from Monday to Friday between 0090 hrs and 1600 hrs, and Saturdays between 0900 hrs and 1200 hrs. Kindly note that banks are closed on Sundays and public holidays. ATMs with multinational financial services are available in most of the shopping malls.
❖The voltage in Kenya is 220 – 240 volts. The sockets require a 3 square pin plug.
❖ The official language of the forum is English.
❖ Nairobi is generally a safe city. However, like in any other country, reasonable precautions should be taken. Avoid walking alone at night and lock your valuables in your hotel safe. We will provide a security brief for the forum.
❖ Weather: The average temperature in Nairobi is 18ºC in December, with highs of 23ºC and lows of 12ºC.
